World’s largest mass exodus has begun!

The annual China’s Spring Festival has begun on Sunday 8th Jan and over 3.15 billion people are expected to move around the country during the next two weeks.

This is by far the biggest migration in the world, where people who study or work away from their hometown are returning to reunite with their families for the Chinese New Year.

Given that China’s population is 1.3 billion, numbers indicate that every Chinese person in the country will travel at least twice.

The mass exodus puts the country’s transportation system under stress…real stress: 2.8 billion trips will be made by bus, with over 840 thousand buses on roads and 2.6 million daily departures.

On January 23, 2012 it will be new Moon day and is the first day of the first Chinese lunar month. 2012 is the 4709th Chinese year and will be the year of the Dragon.

Therefore…if you are planning on going to China within the next two weeks…you better have all your plane tickets booked ahead or be prepared to walk.
