Only for adults! Sexual Coins for sex in Ancient Rome

The atmosphere of ancient Rome was totally relaxed and devoid of any morals. Prostitution was a truly colossal scale. Roman prostitutes (with powdered faces and eyes, let down with soot) do their ancient craft. Visiting prostitutes was considered by the Romans is very common.

They shared their ranks.
Cheap whore selling fast sex in the old city quarters. "Goddess of sex," a higher rank, supported by the attendant, worked in the Roman Baths.

However, they both received for their labor, unusual payment - special coins issued for the calculation with harlots, under the name Sprint.

Most spintry struck in bronze with an erotic story - as a rule, people in various positions at the time of intercourse. On the reverse side struck the Roman numerals designating the value of the coin. A coin with some erotic pose corresponds to payments for services rendered.

Presumably, the time when these coins were minted, belongs to I and II century AD.
There are several versions of the data targets coins. In addition to the version about using them as payment for sexual services in brothels, nominated for the version that spintrii used as a slot tokens or were fired during the Tiberius to discredit the imperial power.

Spintrii are a popular object of collectors and depending on the condition have a high auction price. Because of its relevance to the numismatic market today are often counterfeited and sold to collectors.

    1. Do you have in mind, how these coins were used as slot tokens? I am no expert in the field of gambling of that time (in fact, of our time, too), but we can assume that they were used as rates, such as in table games.
